Swedish Dishcloths are here to stay!

The Swedish Dishcloth was first invented in 1949 by a Swedish Engineer called Curt Lindquist. Lindquist found a way to combine the main component of plants, cellulose, with cotton in a 70:30 split to create a Sponge Cloth that had the strength of a dishcloth but the absorbency of a sponge. The technique was revolutionary! The first Swedish Dishcloth not only absorbed more than the average sponge, but as it was made from natural renewable materials, it was 100% biodegradable and the first fully eco-friendly sponge!

Swedish Dishcloths are now becoming a staple kitchen accessory in Europe. Green Dodo was one of the first companies in the UK to become aware of the Swedish Dishcloth and in August 2020 began selling the Swedish Dishcloths in 9 different colour variations within the UK.

Green Dodo wanted to build on Lindquist’s ideal of creating a fully biodegradable kitchen sponge by expanding that to the packaging. Teaming up with one of the UK’s largest eco-friendly packaging suppliers, Green Dodo created a fully compostable customised bag made of natural potato-starch and other biologically sourced polymers in order to house the sponges. This made the Green Dodo Swedish Dishcloth 100% compostable and reduced plastic packaging waste entirely.

Green Dodo’s Swedish Dishcloth has been a huge success with all stock sold in the first month after launch.  Building on this success Green Dodo have expanded across Europe and are now within Germany, France, Spain, Italy, Sweden and the Netherlands. We interviewed the Co-founder and Head of Marketing at Green Dodo, Josh, on what Green Dodo’s aspirations were for the Swedish Dishcloth.

“Our aim is to ensure that our Swedish Dishcloth is a staple kitchen accessory throughout Europe and then throughout the Americas, Australasia and Asia. If everyone in the world switched to our Swedish Dishcloth we would greatly reduce the amount of plastic waste produced from the kitchen and greatly enhance the washing and cleaning experience within the kitchen for everyone”

In conclusion the Swedish Dishcloth is here to stay and so with 100s of 5* reviews already, Green Dodo seem to be leading the charge. If you are interested in buying when then please click on the link below .
